1. Col RS Nehra was born and brought up in a village in district Jhajjar of Haryana. He did his schooling and higher education from local school and college. He completed his post-graduation from Kurukshetra University. After finishing his post-graduation, he joined IMA Dehradun and was commissioned in Army Educational Corps on 16 Dec 1978. He served in various active formations in High Altitude and Insurgency Area. He also did a tenure as Instructor in the prestigious Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He was also posted in the formation HQ in Kargil during Kargil War and served as PRO besides being SO Education during Kargil War.

2. Col RS Nehra has vast experience in Sainik Schools. He was posted as Headmaster of Sainik School Satara (Maharashtra) and as Principal of three Sainik Schools, namely Sainik School Goalpara (Assam), Sainik School Nalanda (Bihar) and Sainik School Gopalganj (Bihar). He is the founder Principal of Sainik School Nalanda. After finishing his tenure at Sainik School Nalanda, he was posted as Inspecting Officer of Sainik Schools across the country at Sainik Schools Society, MoD, Delhi.

3. Being Inspecting Officer at Sainik Schools Society, he was also instrumental in setting up Sainik School Ambikapur (Chattisgarh), Sainik School Punglwa (Nagaland), Sainik School Kodagu (Karnataka) and Sainik School Rewari (Haryana).

4. He took premature retirement in 2008 and joined Jaypee Group as Vice President Academics but left that appointment after a short duration of 9 months. In 2010, he along with his wife Mrs Santosh Nehra, established their own school, ‘Nalanda Heritage School’ at Nirpur Road, Nalanda, Bihar. This is a residential school and is basically meant for rural children of Bihar. Since its establishment, Nalanda Heritage School has produced wonderful results and has lived up to the expectations of Col & Mrs RS Nehra. In a short span 10 years, the school has achieved distinction of putting boys and girls at National canvas. One of the girls, Preeti Kumari won shooting silver medal in National Games conducted at Trivandrum in 2017. Two boys, Arav Arya and Ankit Kumar won silver medals in Karate in National School Games in 2017 and 2018.

5. Mrs Santosh Nehra has been a pillar of strength for Col RS Nehra. She is a post graduate with BEd degree. She has vast experience in academics. She has been a teacher in various schools and is the founder Principal of Junior Sainik School Nalanda. Presently, she is the Director of Nalanda Heritage School.

6. Col & Mrs RS Nehra have two sons and both are product of Sainik School Satara. Their elder son, Abhinav Nehra is a Commander in Indian Navy. He is a submariner and an ace swimmer. Their younger son, Abhijeet Nehra is the Director of global Kuka Robotics located in Germany. He is an expert in the field of Artificial Intelligence and received the Golden Robot Award in 2019 being the best in the field.
